Project background and objectives
Meat processing plant MECOM GROUP a.s., a major player in the food industry, decided to modernise its energy systems to increase efficiency, reduce operating costs and support sustainable development. The company chose TESLA Energy Group for the project, which designed and implemented a tailor-made solution – a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) with 340 kW of power and 688 kWh of capacity, integrated with CHP units.
MECOM GROUP faced challenges linked to rising energy costs and the need to increase its energy independence. The project objectives included:
- minimising energy operating costs,
- making efficient use of existing energy sources, including cogeneration,
- ensuring a stable and flexible energy supply,
- supporting sustainability and reducing the carbon footprint.
Solution and technical specification
TESLA Energy Group designed a comprehensive solution that included installing a BESS and integrating it with the existing CHP units. The system was developed to analyse and adapt its operation in real time to the company's current needs and energy market conditions.
- Power: 340 kW
- Capacity: 688 kWh
- Integration: with CHP units and central control
- Main functions: tariff optimisation, load management, provision of flexibility and ancillary services
A key element of the solution was the integration of advanced algorithms that enable efficient operational control, cost reduction and maximised revenues from energy market participation.
Project benefits
- Economic efficiency: thanks to the precisely engineered solution, the investment is expected to pay back within a few years. Optimised operating costs and the ability to generate new revenue by participating in the flexibility market are significant benefits.
- Energy independence and stability: the BESS stores surplus energy and uses it during consumption peaks, reducing dependence on external supply.
- Sustainability and a lower carbon footprint: combining BESS with CHP units supports the efficient use of available energy sources and helps reduce CO₂ emissions.
- Scalability and future expansion: the solution is fully scalable, so it can be adapted to the company's changing needs or growing energy demand.
Outcome
The battery storage project for MECOM GROUP in Lučenec is an example of the successful deployment of innovative technologies to optimise energy management. The company has gained a solution that not only reduces costs and increases efficiency, but also supports sustainability and prepares the company for future energy challenges.
