Project background and objectives
As part of its energy transition strategy and efforts to strengthen distribution grid flexibility in the Czech Republic, UCED Energy III s.r.o., a member of the UCED group, initiated the construction of its first large-scale battery energy storage system. The project objectives were to:
- Increase the stability and reliability of the distribution grid by providing ancillary services.
- Optimise consumption and reserved capacity, reducing costs and dependence on the distribution grid.
- Prepare the infrastructure for energy trading on the day-ahead market (SPOT) and for the provision of system services.

Benefits and results achieved
| Objective | Result achieved |
|---|---|
| Providing a backup power source | Independent power source with black-start capability |
| Optimising consumption and reserved capacity | Cost savings and reduced dependence on the distribution grid |
| Stabilising the distribution grid | Support for FRR and other system services |
| Preparing for energy trading | Ready for SPOT arbitrage and flexibility |
Delivery process
TESLA Energy Storage a.s. provided a complete EPCM package, which included:
- Design documentation and permitting: Including securing all necessary building permits and the occupancy approval.
- Engineering and installation: Complete on-site installation of the storage system.
- Commissioning and operator training: Ensuring a smooth transition to operation and professional staff training.
- 24/7 online monitoring and technical support: Continuous supervision and support to ensure reliable operation.
- EMAN24 control software: Integration into the existing UCED energy network.
Project significance
This project represents the most advanced battery storage system of its kind in the Czech Republic and, at the same time, the UCED group's first real step towards building a virtual power plant (VPP). The storage system enables:
- Trading on the day-ahead market (SPOT): Using market electricity prices to maximise profit.
- Providing ancillary services to ČEPS: Ensuring the stability and reliability of the transmission grid.
- Increasing the stability of the local power grid: Rapid response to fluctuations in electricity supply and demand.
Key advantages of the TESLA Energy Storage solution
- European components and development: Most components (except the battery modules) are manufactured in the EU, reducing dependence on Asian supply chains.
- In-house project management and service team: An experienced team ensures high-quality delivery and support.
- 24/7 service, monitoring and a guaranteed response time within 72 hours: A rapid response to any issue keeps downtime to a minimum.
- Independence from Asian supply chains: Reduces the risks associated with global supply chains.
