Project context and objectives
Industrial operations with their own PV plant often face a mismatch between instantaneous generation and actual electricity consumption. During periods of high generation, surpluses can arise, while at other times of day the draw from the grid can rise significantly.
The aim of the project was therefore to create an energy solution that makes it possible to increase the use of on-site PV generation while managing the operation's maximum consumption peaks.
The battery storage system provides a flexible link between generation and consumption, allowing energy to be used at the moment it brings the greatest benefit to operations.
Solution and technical specification
The solution is built around a containerised battery storage system designed with the requirements of industrial operations in mind.
Key technical parameters
- power: 1 MW,
- capacity: 1.3 MWh,
- battery technology: CATL battery modules,
- design: TESLA BESS insulated technology container,
- system control: our own EMAN24 control system.
Our in-house technology container design makes it possible to tailor the technical solution to the specific project requirements and ensure suitable operating conditions for the installed battery technology.
Functionality and benefits
Greater use of on-site PV generation
Surplus electricity generated by the PV plant that the operation cannot consume at that moment is stored in the battery storage system. The energy can then be used during periods of higher consumption.
Limiting consumption peaks
At times of high load, the battery storage system can supply the required power and reduce maximum electricity draw from the grid. This helps to smooth the operation's load profile and manage its energy load more efficiently.
Connecting generation, storage and consumption
Battery control responds to the PV plant's current output and the needs of operations. Generation, storage and consumption thus work together as one coordinated energy system.
Greater energy flexibility
Storage makes it possible to decouple the moment energy is generated from the moment it is consumed, giving the operation greater flexibility in managing its own energy system.
Intelligent control with EMAN24
A key part of the project is our own EMAN24 control system, which provides automatic control of the battery storage system and its interaction with the PV plant and the site's consumption.
The system continuously evaluates the operating status and, depending on the current situation, controls the charging and discharging of the battery so as to make the most efficient use of PV surpluses while limiting consumption peaks.
EMAN24 thus connects the individual parts of the energy system into a single controlled whole and makes it possible to optimise the operation of the battery storage system according to the customer's actual needs.
Project outcome
The 1 MW / 1.3 MWh battery storage system adds controlled energy storage to the PV plant.
The result is a solution that makes it possible to:
- make more efficient use of on-site PV generation,
- store surplus energy for later use,
- limit consumption peaks,
- smooth the operation's energy profile,
- automatically control generation, storage and consumption via the EMAN24 system.
The project demonstrates the practical use of battery storage in an industrial operation, where the battery is not just energy storage but an active tool for managing and optimising the energy system.
