Turnkey 1 MW / 3.344 MWh battery energy storage system for MMV, ready for balancing services and commercial flexibility.

About the project

For MATERIÁLOVÝ A METALURGICKÝ VÝZKUM s.r.o. (MMV), we are delivering a comprehensive battery storage system at an industrial site in Ostrava-Vítkovice, designed primarily for active participation in the power system. The battery system has a guaranteed output of 1 MW and an installed capacity of 3.344 MWh. The solution includes a WS TECH inverter rated at 1.25 MVA. The project was conceived as a comprehensive turnkey delivery covering not only the battery technology itself but also project documentation, civil and electrical installation works, system integration and commissioning.

Project context

Industrial sites have growing potential to enter the energy market actively and to use their infrastructure not only for their own consumption but also to provide flexibility to the power system.

The MMV project in Ostrava-Vítkovice was therefore created as a technological basis for providing balancing services and the commercial use of flexibility.

The battery storage system expands the site's energy infrastructure with a fast, controllable resource that can absorb or supply energy as needed, responding to the current requirements of operations and the energy market.

Technical solution

The project is built around a TESLA BESS battery storage system with a guaranteed output of 1 MW and an installed capacity of 3.344 MWh.

Key technical parameters

  • guaranteed BESS power: 1 MW,
  • installed capacity: 3.344 MWh,
  • inverter: WS TECH,
  • inverter rating: 1.25 MVA,
  • location: Ostrava-Vítkovice,
  • main use: balancing services and commercial flexibility.

The system is designed to enable the precise and fast power control needed for active participation in the energy market.

Ready for balancing services

One of the main purposes of the project is to create the technical conditions for providing balancing services.

The battery storage system is well suited to this use mainly thanks to its ability to:

  • rapidly change charging and discharging power,
  • respond precisely to control requests,
  • repeatedly provide flexibility as needed,
  • operate in different operating modes.

The BESS thus becomes an actively controlled element of the power system, not merely an energy storage device.

Commercial flexibility

In addition to its technical use, the battery system can also serve as a tool for commercial trading of flexibility.

Controllable power and available capacity create scope for using the battery on energy markets and for combining different commercial and operating strategies.

The customer thus gains a technology that, depending on current conditions, can be used both for energy market purposes and for the further development of the industrial site's own energy system.

Comprehensive turnkey delivery

The MMV project was delivered as a complete package, from design through to commissioning of the system.

The scope of delivery included:

  • project documentation,
  • supply of the battery technology,
  • associated civil works,
  • electrical installation works,
  • integration of the individual technology components,
  • commissioning of the entire system.

The result is a single functional energy system ready for operation and the use of flexibility.

An active energy asset for the industrial site

Installing the BESS complements the site's conventional industrial energy supply with a fast, controllable resource offering a high degree of operational flexibility.

The system creates scope for:

  • providing balancing services,
  • trading flexibility,
  • further optimisation of energy flows on site,
  • future expansion of active energy management.

The battery thus serves as a platform for the further development of the customer's energy management.

Project outcome

The result is a 1 MW / 3.344 MWh battery storage system with a WS TECH 1.25 MVA inverter, delivered as a comprehensive turnkey solution.

The project provides the customer with a technological basis for:

  • active participation in the power system,
  • providing balancing services,
  • commercial use of flexibility,
  • further development of energy management at the industrial site.

The MMV project is a comprehensive battery solution that combines energy storage with the active use of power and flexibility on the energy market.
